2015-2016 Guild Challenge!

Nashoba Valley Weavers' Guild Posted on November 1, 2015 by LauraSeptember 8, 2016

poker

Weaver’s Design Poker!  We played this game at our October meeting, and many of us went home with a “hand of cards” to use for this year’s Challenge.  The cards are marked with various design elements.  A 5-card-hand may have elements related to color, type of yarn, structure/design and other miscellany.  We challenge you to use as many of the elements as possible in a woven piece that will be presented at the June 2016 potluck.

Didn’t make the October meeting?  It’s not too late to play!  Please contact Penny (mailto:weaver39@gmail.com) and she’ll make sure you get some cards appropriate for your personal weaving challenge.

LABrownCotton

This was sent via email thru our website, so I’m passing it along.  Even if you don’t spin, it sounds like an interesting project!  Read below:

Hello from North Louisiana,

I raised over 300 Louisiana Brown Cotton plants this summer. We have almost finished picking and ginning. Would you be interested in some fiber?

You can see the project on my Facebook page. ANTHONY LIONEL MULLINS. Louisiana Brown Cotton Project 2015 folder for the photos.

There is also a great new documentary about the BROWN COTTON. Here is the link…….. https://www.facebook.com/AcadianBrownCotton?fref=ts

Meeting Reminder, Get your creative juices flowing on Oct 27th!

Nashoba Valley Weavers' Guild Posted on October 26, 2015 by LauraOctober 26, 2015
The next meeting of the Nashoba Valley Weavers’ Guild will be held at the Fiber Loft on Tuesday, October 27th.  Come at 7 to socialize, check out selected library items and for refreshments.  The meeting will begin at 7:30 pm.
Weaving Design Poker!
Have you ever needed inspiration in your weaving, or maybe just a little nudge in a different direction? Have you ever wanted to just let your imagination run wild when planning a weaving project? Do you have trouble choosing WHICH of your many great ideas you should implement next? Well do we have a game for you!
At the next regular NVWG meeting on Tuesday 27 October, Penny Lacroix will be dealing. Dealing cards, that is. We’ll be playing a variant of 5-Card Draw that will get everyone thinking warps and wefts, triads and neutrals, blocks and twills. When you just have to describe it (not actually weave it), your weaving juices will flow freely. Your designs will be limited only by your own imagination! This is for weavers at all levels, from very beginner through advanced.
Guild Challenge:
Once we’ve all warmed up our imaginations, we’ll deal a final hand to generate challenges.  By the end of the evening, everyone will have a set of cards that will inspire them to weave something at their own level for our 2015-16 Guild Challenge.  The woven products and their stories will be brought to the June 2016 potluck to share with everyone.
If you would like to participate in the Guild Challenge but can’t make it to the October meeting, please contact Penny (mailto:weaver39@gmail.com) and she’ll make sure you get some cards appropriate for your personal weaving challenge.

8-dent reed give away

Nashoba Valley Weavers' Guild Posted on October 18, 2015 by Arlette StawaszOctober 18, 2015

I have an 8-dent reed. It is not stainless steel but in ok shape. It is 45″ long but 6″ high. It doesn’t fit any loom I have. Anyone interested? I can bring it to the meeting next week.
