24 March Meeting Reminder!
Samples for new weavers at NEWS
From Jayne Flanagan, Past President NEWS 2003:
The NEWS Beginners Class is a good “new home” for draft sheets with samples that your members may be de-stashing or “spring cleaning” (if spring ever gets here). Once again I will be collecting them, sorting and bundling, so that each beginning student will leave the conference with a stack of inspiration to go with their new knowledge. Shipping them to me prior to NEWS is an option, but I will be there on Wednesday, so I will try to arrange a drop off location as well. Their teacher, Carol Birtwistle, always says that the students are thrilled with this extra gift from all of us. Thanks in advance!
UPDATE from Jayne:
The drop off location at NEWS will be a box in the Registration Desk area.
Or contact one of your NEWS representatives for Jayne’s mailing address.

Meeting Reminder for Tues, 24Feb2015
So far the weather for Tuesday evening doesn’t look too bad. Let’s hope we can all get together and break the cabin fever that seems to be setting in across the region!
We’ll plan to meet for social & library time at 7pm at The Fiber Loft. At 7:30, we’ll have a brief business meeting, followed by our evening program. This month, Guild member Susan Targove will present a talk on the designing and history of tartans. Susan is an accomplished tartan weaver and big fan of the popular Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, which I’m certain will be mentioned in her presentation.
Hope to see you all there!

Meeting Cancelled
Due to the storm, our 27Jan2015 meeting has been cancelled. We hope to try to reschedule this program for another time.
Stay safe and warm!
Meeting, Tuesday 27Jan2014, Textile Illusions in Film
Yes, we’re watching the weather forecast! Snow Cancellation Policy
If the weather outside is frightful how do you know if a meeting is cancelled? If the schools are closed in Harvard, MA then the meeting is cancelled. In addition the board will send out an email announcement by noon of the meeting day if the meeting will be cancelled. Finally, you can always call the Fiber Loftat (978) 456-8669 and inquire – if they are closed there will be no meeting!
BUT…..if the weather isn’t as awful as they are predicting, we will have a Guild meeting on Tuesday evening at 7pm. We’ll have a half hour of social/library time, a brief business meeting at 7:30, then move on to our program. We’re excited to present:
Textile Illusions in Film
Meghan Boemer will discuss techniques used in film costuming that create the illusion of various materials. This includes aging and distressing, sculptural textiles, armor and repurposing materials.
So let’s hope that the weather holds and we can all get together for some inspiration!
Laura, co-Chair
Farm Fiber Day Postponed
Due to the pending storm, Farm Fiber Day at the Wayland Winter Farmers’ Market has been postponed until next Saturday, 31Jan. The regular market will still take place, with at least one fiber vendor for those needing a fix.
